Kinda Blue – AUG2025
This cocktail won 3rd place at INTL Bar in El Paso, TX for a Johnnie Walker/Mr. Black competition. Inspiration came from jazz music, specifically Mr. Miles Davis and his album “Kind of Blue”(1959). Legend has it he enjoyed scotch from time to time, and favored cocktails such as the Rob Roy, from which the Kinda Blue is derived. The trick was to bring a coffee liqueur to the mix and make it work. Luckily Mr. Black isn’t too sweet, being a vodka base, and the Black Label whiskey blended scotch gave me plenty of room to play with flavor without worrying about too much smoke.

-1oz coffee infused Dolin vermouth blanc
-3 dashes “Kinda Blue” bitters

Sin Prisa – JUL2025
Roughly translated to “no rush”, this cocktail won 2nd place at Benny Franks in EPTX for an Ilegal Mezcal sponsored DAQ-OFF hosted by Death by Bartender. The idea was to recreate a daiquiri build with a twist: the base spirit was an aged, funky finished mezcal in place of rum. Not going to lie here, Micaela’s ingenuity in combining strong complex flavors with her knowledge of culture really brought this cocktail to what it is.

-2oz Ilegal Mezcal Reposado Caribbean Cask
-0.75oz Orange cordial
-0.5oz Lazzaroni amaretto gum syrup
-2 or 3 drops of sal de gusano saline solution
-Garnish with candied orange peel spiral
