Cazadores 100% blue weber agave tequila is downright amazing, and recently they threw a really cool and creative event/birthday party at Cerveceria 19(West)! I am relatively new to the scene, so HUGE shout out to Eddie Cruz (Brand Ambassador for Cazadores, Bacardi, and Patron!) for the invite!
I’m the kind of person who always loves a good story, and here at Bishop we like to respect history. We stand in awe at tales of triumph against adversity, victory over persecution, and impossible odds beaten time and time again. That’s why when it comes to Cazadores 100% agave tequilana tequila, it is no wonder how emotional connection with such a great spirit and story can happen overnight! So let’s take a look at it!
Cazadores is translated to “The Hunters”, and is a direct reference to the spirit in which this agave distillate was invented, crafted, and continues to be produced into the modern age. The year was 1922, and the legends say that one man in the Highlands of Jalisco, Mexico began his hunt for the perfect recipe for tequila. The Highlands of Jalisco (Los Altos) are known for their distinctive terroir: highly acidic and rich in iron oxides, the red soil, silt and clay-like, with cool temperatures consistently 59-68 degrees fahrenheit. With these conditions, the agave can take up to 6-8 years to be ready to cultivate, and by the time they are ready will have such fragrant sugars that when fermented and distilled are popular for their floral, citrusy, and fruity flavor tones.
It was in these highlands where his agave would be cultivated, and eventually the stag (an animal which would frequently roam proudly among his rows of waxy blue-tinted succulents) would become the icon of the brand. The majesty of the stag became a symbol of Wisdom, Knowledge, and Confidence. Perhaps confidence in knowledge, and moreso confidence in the knowledge that they make some pretty damn good tequila. The family and community of Pueblo Arandas in Jalisco, MX have been doing it together for over 100 years now, and they’re not going anywhere.
